How Finerenone works
Finerenone is a nonsteroidal, selective antagonist of the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR). This receptor, usually activated by hormones like aldosterone and cortisol, helps in controlling sodium levels in the body. Finerenone blocks and prevent this receptor from overactivation, which can damage different parts of the body such as the kidneys, heart, and blood vessels.

Increased potassium level in blood, Hypotension (low blood pressure), Decreased sodium level in blood
Expert advice for Finerenone
- Avoid breastfeeding at the time of treatment with Finerenone and for one day after treatment.
- For patients who are unable to swallow whole tablets, Finerenone may be crushed and mixed with water or soft foods, before taking it.
- Inform your doctor if you are taking potassium supplements or any other medications for high blood pressure or heart disease.
- Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception during the treatment to avoid getting pregnant.
- Finerenone contains lactose; inform your doctor if you have lactose intolerance.
